How does stress show up for you?
For me, it’s frustration, impatience, anger, fear, confusion, guilt and it’s happening often, multiple times a day.
Its purpose is to keep us safe, to let us know when we’re stepping out of our comfort zones into unknown territory and put us on guard for danger.
However in our modern lives, stepping out of our comfort zones isn’t likely to get us eaten by lions or crocodiles but instead to be stretching ourselves, learning and growing.
So why fight it?
Why wish it away?
When we can recognise that stress is an essential part of growth, accept it as a feature of a fulfilling life and not a bug to be eliminated, we can start to see it as a sign we’re becoming more than we were.
When we listen to our inner voices and hear what they have to say about how our values are being challenged we can review our choices and make better decisions more aligned to what really matters to us deep down.
A life without stress doesn’t exist. Even doing nothing will lead to stress. As humans, we’re programmed to seek out challenges, to solve problems, to fix things.
So instead, we can value stress as a great indicator of our forward momentum, the evidence we’re becoming the people we want to be.
Stress is a feature of growth not a bug in our lives to be avoided.
