I’ve lost count of the times people have said to me they can’t do something because they’re not confident enough.
Is that you, are you holding back on trying new things or making changes in your life because you’re not confident?
Is that you, are you holding back on trying new things or making changes in your life because you’re not confident?
Well, if you wait for confidence you’ll never do it. Confidence comes afterward, when you’ve done the thing and can look back on it.
Think about it, when in your past have you ever started something new feeling fully confident? Mostly we feel some fear, a risk of embarrassment being a beginner, worried about making mistakes or not being good enough. But for the things you are confident about now, you embraced those feelings and pushed through. You learned as you went, you leveled up your skills, and you consolidated your knowledge.
So now, as you’re thinking of trying something new and feeling the fear, remember your past successes with new things and take heart in the fact that you’ve done it before.
All you really need is to know the first step and then summon the courage to take it.
This is where coaching can be so powerful: having a sounding board to work through your fears and doubts to find that first step. Creating a plan together to give you the best chance of it going well. Supporting your learning along the way so your growth is fast-tracked.
So, what is it that you’re putting off while you wait for confidence to magically arrive? Where do you need a little courage instead?
